orn in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1982, Gryth Russell first studied art at the Halifax School of Art and then at the School of Art at Boston. Russell left Canada in 1911 to study at the Academie Julian and Academie Calorossi in Paris. After the outbreak of the war he served as a War Artist. Later in his life he made a living as an highly sought after artist and lecturer. Russell spent his final years in Penarth, South Wales.
