Enslin Hercules du Plessis

Biography:
The son of a minister du Plessis initially only painted for pleasure whilst working as a journalist. After serving in WW1 he settled in London in 1924 working for Argus Press. In 1928 he began to take painting seriously and the next year he was elected to the London Group. Took up painting full time following his retirement and exhibited widely, including a series of New Group Exhibitions and at the Tate. In 1972 he was awarded the South African Akademie Medal of Honour for Painting.
